Every member of the Department of Pathology is actively engaged in research to provide information necessary for fast
and accurate diagnosis, and treatment of patients and education to cultivate talented medical professionals.
Main items of pathological diagnosis include biopsy, cystoscopy, immunologic test, electron microscopy, molecular diagnostic testing, and autopsy; and subdivided into gastrointestinal pathology, female genital pathology, breast pathology, urinary system & renal pathology, pulmonary pathology, head & neck pathology, neuropathology, myopathic pathology, bone & soft tissue pathology, lymphoreticular system pathology, endocrine pathology, perinatal pathology, pediatric pathology & autopsy, cytopathology, and molecular pathology, which support specialized diagnosis and clinical research.
We are also dedicated to pathologic studies that connect basic medicine with clinical medicine. We are developing technologies for Oncomap and genome research in partnership with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) at Harvard University. The research findings will provide a new standard for prognosis judgment and personalized treatment.
A number of excellent resident physicians and doctors are produced every year through the four-year pathologist courses and the pathology major courses by the University of Ulsan College of Medicine. We give courses for clinical fellows from pathology major and sub-specialties as well as the surgical pathology training lectures held every year since 1999 as part of lifelong education of pathologists nationwide.
